Surprise Trip!

We had a GREAT time to Ohio :) And, it started off with a "trip" to Chicago :)
Scott and I got off the plane in Midway, Illinois at 1:58pm. Since our next flight didn't depart until 3:10pm (approx. 2 hours) we decided to go ask the information desk what we could do in Chicago. Within about 3 minutes, we had made some quick, calculated decisions, and made our way to the "L" to catch the orange line into the city. Scott is SO happy:
And here I am, in a bit of disbelief that we are actually leaving the airport with only a 2 hour layover...
I can't tell you how excited Scott was to be in Chicago. He has never been there before, so when we got off on Michigan Ave, he was pleased as punch! (I wish we'd had the time and money to go to Cirque Du Soleil as advertised on the sign behind Scott. What a dream that would be!)
We started out just exploring the heart of the city. According to our calculations, we had 20 minutes downtown so we'd be back to the airport 7 minutes before the plane departed. Walking along the river was my highlight :)
Then things stared to get a little sticky... We somehow ended up under a big, big bridge, and walking along an overpass that led us very far away from "the loop" when the L runs. We got in a little pickle and had to run across about 9 lanes of traffic and hop this fence. Scott ran ahead of me, so I didn't really think about what I was doing, just blindly followed. Turns out that railing is pretty high when you have to get your body safely over in 2 seconds flat.

One thing led to the next, and before you know it, we had visited Navy Pier (very far from the city by foot if you know Chicago) missed a train, taken a taxi, ridden 2 other trains, run frantically through the airport like crazy people, and missed our flight by 4 minutes. Here's a little clip of what it was like:

Sad.
But, my "the Wreck" sandwich at Potbelly's was Happy!
We ended up getting on a flight 3 hours later with no monetary consequences. But we did miss 3 precious hours with the family :( Knowing how things turned out I wouldn't have done it this way, but since it happened, I sure did have a grand time!!!
